Investing in TUS Roads
The Tucson Airport Authority (TAA) continues to invest in infrastructure development and modernization at TUS. If you are travelling in June, you will notice our roadway rehabilitation project is underway. Newly paved roads will create a smoother experience for travelers, adding to our already incredible ease of use at TUS! Roadways leading to passenger pick up and drop off areas, rental car returns, and our cellphone waiting lot will be resurfaced between 6 pm and 4am until the beginning of July. We recommend passengers allow a little extra time when traveling to TUS. All roads and parking lots will still be available; however, lanes will be reduced to one usable lane for entry and detours have been set up for some areas.

TUS Partners with the University of Arizona and National Weather Service About Heat Awareness
Tucson attracts millions of tourists every year, but in the heat of summer, it is important to create awareness about the dangers of desert heat. Leveraging our Public Information Screens around Baggage Claim, TUS has partnered with the University of Arizona and the National Weather Service to create heat awareness messaging.
While Tucson is an amazing destination to visit year-round, it is important to create awareness for our visitors so they can stay safe.

Fun Aviation Factoids | Why do Airports have 3-Letter Location Identifiers?
The FAA uses three-letter identifiers, known as FAA Location Identifiers (LIDs), for most airports in the United States, particularly for those with scheduled commercial service, a staffed air traffic control facility, or designated as Airports of Entry. These identifiers are used for various purposes, including flight planning, airline timetables, airline reservations, and baggage handling systems to name a few. While the FAA assigns these codes, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) also uses the same three-letter codes for their systems. These codes are often called IATA airport codes.
For example, Tucson International Airport is assigned the code TUS, not TIA, which is assigned to Tirana International Airport in Albania. Other identifier codes are obvious, while others are curious!

MCI | Kansas City, MO, is considered mid-continent and was assigned the code MCI.
ORD | The airport’s three-letter code originates from two things: 1. Orchard Field Airport, the original name of the airport. 2. A brave naval pilot, Butch O-Hare, who flew in World War II and was awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroism. “O” in ORD represents the first letter of the airport’s current name “O’Hare,” while the “RD” comes from the second and third letters of “Orchard.”
XNA | “X” was at the crossroads between several Northwest Arkansas AR cities. The “NA” stands for Northwest Arkansas, hence XNA.
