TUS Holiday Travel Tips
- Check flight status: Before you leave for the airport check the status of your flight. Airlines can adjust to get flights back on schedule. Keep in mind, some airlines still close their check-in counter as much as 45 minutes ahead of the scheduled departure time and deny passenger boarding – even a late flight – if the passenger was not checked in by the deadline. On the other hand, if you are worried about making a connection due to a delayed flight, check with your airline online or by phone to see if they have made other arrangements for you. Flight status information here.
- Convenient Parking: TUS boasts more than 7,500 spaces; nearly 2,000 parking spaces are within walking distance. If you park in the Economy lots, know that courtesy shuttles operate 24/7/365. Parking information here.
- Picking up Passengers at TUS? If you have family or friends arriving for the holidays, check the flight status at flytucson.com. While you wait for your loved one to arrive, take advantage of TUS’s Cell Phone Lot. The lot is free, easily accessible, and less than a one-minute drive to the terminal. If you plan to greet your loved ones inside the terminal, parking is available directly in front of the terminal at hourly rates. Button - Waiting Lot Direction
- Do not wrap gifts: Transportation Security Administration (TSA) may need to open wrapped gifts if security equipment indicates it could be suspicious. It is best to pack your gifts in your checked baggage. For real-time assistance on travel questions, reach out to @AskTSA on Facebook and Twitter.
- Pack your patience: At this time of year there are more travelers who may be unfamiliar with airline rules and TSA regulations, so it is good to be prepared for longer wait times throughout the airport. Even at TUS, during the busy holiday season, it may be wise to be at the airport as much as 2 hours ahead of your flight. This will allow time for any unexpected issues or longer waiting times.
- Holiday Treats: Check out some of the restaurants and shops at TUS. Get in the travel spirit with a morning coffee or evening snack. Find more information here.

Featured Artist: Jennifer Tepper
Local artist Jennifer Tepper got her start in Washington, DC, inspired by her artistic father who was an architect by trade. She first learned about art at the Smithsonian Institute, which led to her lifelong love of creating. Today, Tepper finds inspiration in the light of the desert Southwest, “it’s unlike anywhere else I've lived, and I just love it. Abstract art is a deeply personal experience. It does not tell you what to see but instead invites you to feel. We bring to it our own lives, our own moments, and in doing so, we find something uniquely ours.” She describes her art as not being about explaining, it is about being. It is about honoring my time on this earth, listening to the world around her, and giving form to the unseen forces that move through all of us.
Jennifer’s art is part of the Tucson Airport Authority’s temporary art exhibit on display now through early January 2026. Jennifer says, “If my paintings do anything, I hope they help you listen—to yourself, to your dreams, to that quiet knowing inside you. Art has the power to connect, to remind us of who we are and who we might become. It is a space for truth, for courage, for beauty. It is a way of being fully alive."
